A BRIEF HISTORY OF CALICINTO RANCH

| Home | Facilities |

Karakul sheep 1880's to the 1970's
Calicinto Ranch was a historic working Karakul sheep ranch.  It was built and run by Rex and Babe Rexer in the late 1800's.  The Rexers raised these Karakul sheep also known as Persian lambs for their wool and furs and would sell the fur coats to the rich and famous that would stay at the nearby Soboba Hot Springs Resort.  Because Calicinto was becoming a favorite little spot well-known for its hospitality and food the Rexers built a little Cafe, general store and bungalows to help accommodate their guests here on the ranch.  Rancho Calicinto, as it was known, was the end of the trail for wagon trains this side of the San Jacinto Mountains.
The ranch, as far as we can tell, boomed in the 1920's and into the 1950's then set quiet during the next few decades.

1970's to 1995
Not knowing the history and special plans for Calicinto Ranch, Henry and Joanne Pirelli purchases this hibernating "treasure in the rough" in the 1970's. The love and care for their children to be raised in a peaceful "country" setting developed into a strong desire to bless and encourage other children and families. For the next several years many of the Pirelli's church, school and community friends were to gather here on the ranch during their children's growing up years.

today 1995...to today
In 1995 the Pirelli Family, through an open door to use Calicinto Ranch as a place for outside groups to come and be ministered to, specifically foster and county system young people. It was during this first official camp that the vision to use Calicinto Ranch as a place to help at risk children and young people right here in Southern California. Who would have thought that the Old Historic Sheep ranch would be used years later to introduce children to the Lamb of God!

As of January 1, 2002 Calicinto Ranch, governed by a Board of professionals, high ethics, became a Non profit 501c3 organization and has been the grateful recipient of many generous donors and has also received funding through grants. Many men's groups, schools, businesses, individuals, and churches have partnered with Calicinto in graciously giving of their time, talents, and resources all with a heart of precious and priceless love for children. You can also-join in-the harvest is Great!

In 2002, Calicinto Ranch began hosting a variety of groups who have benefitted including VIP Tots, staff meetings for colleges and universities, mentally challenged groups, Riverside County Sheriff's Recognition Dinners, Revival Christian Fellowship Hoedowns, Hemet Unified School District eduactional kindergarten field trips, California Family Life, Southern California Missionettes, and Hemet Valley Christmas in the Park. Since 2002, Calicinto Ranch has also reached out to over 2,000 children who have a parent or both incarcerated. Children get to experience a life-changing week of camping at no cost to them or their families. It has been definately a week that they will be impacted and transformed for the rest of their lives! It was also at this time that Calicinto Ranch connected with Prison Fellowship Ministries and has become an official campsite for Angel Tree Camping. Calicinto Ranch is soley funded by direct contributions.

In November 2006, Calicinto hosted it's first of many Leadership Camps that are available to children that have outgrown our summer camp program and are between the ages of 12-15 years old. These campers have amazing weekends as they attended workshops about character and leadership and learned important life skills responsible citizenship, self-motivation, and self-responsibility. Special guests from the community including former NFL players and business leaders are given the opportunity to share and give valuable direction and motivation to these kids.

In 2007, Calicinto continues to reach out to children of prisoners and has expanded its Leadership Camps so these children would be able to apply learned skillls and character qualities to reach out into their own communities, schools, families and country. It's an opportunity to show them that disaster strikes people in different ways and as so many generous people have reached to them, in return, they are shown "remodeling through modeling." As a result, Calicinto Kids in Action was formed and is currently reaching out to the families affected by the California Fire Storms 2007, and travelled to Revival Christian Fellowhip Hoedown to learn how to give back to the community.

We are excited at all that is in store for these innocent victims of crime and we are very grateful for your interest and support in partnering with us. Through the generosity of countless individuals, businesses, churches and corporate donors, Calicinto continues to move forward and provide a relaxing, comfortable country setting with the best Ranch Kitchen Cooked food in the west!
